Style Tips: To Accessorize or Not To Accessorize?

Style Tips: To Accessorize or Not To Accessorize?

Gone are the days of the 2000s where accessories were your statement. You could have a well crafted outfit or a plain outfit, but the way you accessorized it could change the whole look. Accessorizing was the bow on the present, the icing on the cake!

Now we live in an interesting time where Millenial childhood outfits are coming back in style, minimalism is now a statement, and mini trends come and go by the second thanks to social media. I will admit, despite my love for fashion, I stopped following the trends for a while now (and I still don't) because they come and go so quickly. One minute something is the must have item, then a few months later, it's almost garbage because everyone has it and now you don't want to look like everyone else by wearing it.

There are some clothing trends that I think are here to stay for a while, but that is another post. One thing I do not see much about are accessories. Yes of course there are the "It Bags" that people covet and the designer belts, but is that it? Is that what sets off your outfits? What about your earrings? Necklaces? Bracelets? Hair accessories? The perfect sunglasses?

I have a standing jewelry box (almost like a tiny armoire) FULL of jewelry and a box full of hair accessories, but it almost feels out of place to wear it nowadays. Does that sound like anyone else out there? Or is it just me?

This is one reason why I created Modasus which is centered around being your best, bold, authentic self, whatever that looks like to you. It is difficult to keep up with every trend that comes out, so I charge you with this, WEAR WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY! Don't be afraid to wear those bold earrings or necklace! Accessories is what makes an outfit truly unique. So next time you put on an outfit and you add accessories and think, "this feels like too much..." that means you're on the right track. By the way, I feel this way about men and women!

Sometimes I feel like when certain trends are heavily saturated in the market (especially very specific trends like minimal or time periods), that is the best time to deviate and stay true to what you love to wear. It's not bad to subscribe to trends, but I highly recommend to make it your own. Blend each piece seamlessly into your current wardrobe. If you buy it just because it's "in style" then you will never wear it more than a handful of times.
